An insight into mallu marriages

We mallus have a very clear cut and simple understanding about marriage ceremonies. First it should be short and second, the food should be good. So a typical marriage in Kerala, doesn’t last more than a day, in fact it lasts only for a few hours. I have received a lot of criticism and sarcastic comments from my friends about marriages in Kerala being blink-and-you miss affairs. Now my question to those people is why concentrate on anything else when you are there to attend your friend’s marriage. Sure that pretty young thing there is grabbing your eyeballs, but what is important your friend’s wedding or getting the attention of that leggy lass. In that case don’t complain if you miss the marriage ceremony.

Well coming back to the issue, marriages in Kerala has been designed in such a manner for specific reasons. Not its not to save money, believe me have plenty of it, one look at the golden statue, sorry I mean the girl and you will get the idea. The question of saving time doesn’t even arise as we have a laid back culture.

First let’s accept the basic fact that majority of the guests are there for the lunch, they don’t care who you are marrying and all that details. Those are people who you will meet only once in your life time – at your wedding. So why go through all this charade of prolonging the marriage ceremony and cause discomfort to the guests who have taken the pain to attend the wedding. We mallus perfectly understand this, so we finish of the ceremony fast and for food. For all those people who have not attended mallu wedding, don’t be alarmed if you find the crowd similar to that in any suburban station in Mumbai in front of the lunch hall.In fact if you regularly travel in Mumbai locals, you actually have a head start. So i suggest you too join as there is a serious threat of food getting over by the time your turn comes.

Note: This write up can be used as a primer for those who will be attending mallu marriages
